Does your business have to separate food waste?

Under England's Simpler Recycling rules, most workplaces now have to keep food waste separate from general rubbish — leaving it too late can mean scrambling for a supplier at the last minute.

The rule, in plain terms

Since 31 March 2025, businesses in England with 10 or more full-time-equivalent employees must arrange separate collection of food waste and dry recyclables. Smaller businesses — under 10 FTE — have until 31 March 2027.

For a busy kitchen, that usually means a dedicated food waste collection on a schedule that keeps bins from overflowing between services. We'll match you with a licensed supplier who can set that up.

660L+

Common questions

How much does commercial food waste collection cost?

It depends on how much waste you produce, how often you need collections, and your location. That's why we arrange a tailored quote rather than a one-size-fits-all price — so you only pay for the schedule your business actually needs.

Do I have to separate food waste from general waste?

In England, businesses with 10 or more full-time-equivalent employees have had to separate food waste since 31 March 2025. Businesses with fewer than 10 FTE have until 31 March 2027. A dedicated food waste collection is the simplest way to stay compliant.

Is the quote really free and no-obligation?

Yes. You'll receive a quote from a licensed waste supplier and it's entirely up to you whether you go ahead. There's no charge for the quote, and no commitment either way.

Is the waste supplier properly licensed?

Yes. We only work with a waste supplier registered with the Environment Agency, so your waste is handled in line with your Duty of Care responsibilities.
